THE CHALLENGE
In the specific case of an important producer of Indian aluminum castings, we were asked to enclose in a single cell the entire production process of an aluminum casting, from casting to pre-finishing. Upon exiting the cell the product is ready for mechanical processing.
THE SOLUTION
We have designed a circular cell where a single central robot takes care of the complete manipulation of the product, from casting to unloading.
The process is complete: automatic molding, casting, solidification in the shell, extraction of the casting from the casting, cooling of the casting, de-soiling on a vibrating machine, cutting of the sprue in the disc saw, deburring, sandblasting of the casting, spot marking and unloading onto the belt conveyor
THE RESULTS
This is a cell designed for this customer's specific products. They are large, complex products with very long solidification times. This means that only one molding machine can be used with a production of 10 castings/hour.
CUSTOMER COMMENT
The customer previously performed all operations manually. This involved moving the jet many times with the possibility of damaging the component. The final quality was terrible. Now the process is done all in one area without human manipulation. The customer decided to apply this cell concept to all components produced by gravity casting. Today we are installing the sixth line for this customer!
